Rethinking maps and the exploration of the city trough play
-
playmap is a project that aims to rethink and innovate the concept of maps and city exploration. What would happen if instead of receiving a normal map at the tourist office we had the option to choose playmap? An alternative to discover the city in a more interactive way, focused on sustainable tourism and respectful with the community and the locals.
In today’s society we have stopped playing, both children and adults. We don’t realize the power of play outside the context of children’s toys and playgrounds. Play is contextual, any space can become a playground if it is designed with the elements for play to happen. What would happen if play were to take over the streets of a city, of the entire world? A world without borders, united by the threads of play.
The union of play issues and regulates the maps and passports to play in the city. Local member states propose challenges to tourists to earn stamps that are then rewarded in experiences. Through the challenges, tourists and even locals can visit less crowded routes, learning curiosities and interacting with locals using the game as a unifying factor. The challenges are divided into 4 categories: sense, think, care and interact.
